The Dispute of Ha'Edah Ha'Charedit with Rabbi Kook – Important Historical Documents
A historical document signed by rabbis and activists of Jerusalem to the managers of the City Committee of the Ashkenazic Community (Ha'Edah Ha'Charedit). Jerusalem, 1920. The document contains a summary of the decisions that were reached during "our gathering to make peace in Jerusalem" between Ha'Edah Ha'Charedit and the Chief Rabbinate. The document is signed by the rabbis and activists of Jerusalem including: Rabbi Yosef Gershon Horowitz, Rabbi Zalman Rubin, Rabbi Meir Adler, Rabbi Menachem mendel Porush, Rabbi Chaim Yuda Leib Auerbach, Rabbi Zvi David Hirschbein (a Gur Hassid), and more.
A pained letter by the rabbis of Jerusalem to Rabbi Sonnenfeld and the managers of Ha'Edah Ha'Charedit about the delay in bringing peace to the city. "We have almost given up on knocking on the door of peace, yet since the situation of the non-observant becomes entrenched as time goes by due to the schisms between us, we see it as our duty to come to turn to you again … so that you have mercy on the remnant of Israel…". Signed by Rabbi Dov Ber Abramowitz, Rabbi Yosef Gershon Horowitz and Rabbi Yisrael Ze'ev Mintzberg. 1923.
An interesting, important letter by Rabbi Yisrael Chaim Eiss, the well-known activist of Agudat Yisrael, to the managers of the Jerusalemite branch of Agudat Yisrael. In the letter, he responds to their complaint why Rabbi Kook was invited to be a member of "Moetzet Gedolei Ha'Torah" of Agudat Yisrael. He explains that Rabbi Kook had joined Agudat Yisrael several years earlier and was chosen as a member of "Moetzet Gedolei Ha'Torah" on behalf of the national federation of the Land of Israel together with Rabbi Chaim Berlin. "The center [Agudat Yisrael] had no say in the matter… Rabbi Kook was then an admirer of Agudat Yisrael and did not think for a moment to stray from the general way of the other rabbis and great Torah scholars". 1920. Two pages.
An official leaf by "Va'ad Ha'Ezra Ha'Merkazi" containing a draft of the "proposals of the terms of peace that had been accepted" on the matter of the Rabbis' Committee that had been founded then in 1922. A single leaf. Missing the end and a signature.
An official letter by the Chief Rabbinate to Kollelot Chabad, Lubavitch and Bobroysk about choosing a representative of these Kollelot for the committee overseeing the Jewish poorhouses (the background: the refusal of several Kollelot to be part of the committee since it was organized by the Chief Rabbinate). Signature of the secretary of the Chief Rabbinate. 1923.
Condition: Good.
