Collection of 6 rare photographs of the events of the Sherbourg ships sold to Israel, 1969, including photographs showing the ships from their place in France and meetings of senior French and Israeli officials. The photographs are in large format, 18X23.5 cm On one of the photographs is a pen inscription in the upper left corner: "To Major Rinat, the launch of my brother Hanit Sherbog". 14.10.1969. A slight tear to one of the photographs (with senior officials gathering) from the lower margin. * Ships of Cherbourg is the nickname of five Saar 3 assault boats built for the Israeli Navy in France, in a project in the late 1960s. Shortly after their completion, the French government imposed an embargo on the sale of arms to Israel. Despite the ban, Israel succeeded in escaping the ships in December 1969 and bringing them to Haifa. The ships crossed the road from Cherbourg to Haifa on a journey of more than 3,000 nautical miles (more than 5,500 kilometers) in a stormy sea, when they are radiated on their way by Israeli merchant ships.
