Compilation of Photographs and Paper Items Related to the City of Hebron – 1930s-60s16 photos and paper items related to the city of Hebron, from the 1929 Arab riots in Palestine and from the time of the Six Day War. From the early 1930s until the late 1960s (one item is from 1998).
* Stenciled braodside from September 1, 1929. Distributed by High Commissioner John Chancellor following the riots. The text reads "I have learned with horror of the atrocious acts committed by bodies of ruthless and bloodthirsty evil-doers, of savage murders perpetrated upon defenseless members of the Jewish population… In accordance with an undertaking which I gave to the committee of the Arab Executive… I initiated discussions with the Secretary of State when in England on the subject of constitutional changes in Palestine. In view of recent events, I shall suspend these discussions…". Written under the title of the flyer: "Distributed today by planes flying above Jerusalem".
* Issue of the Haaretz newspaper from September 1, 1929, dedicated to the events in Hebron and throughout Israel. The newspaper cites testimonies from Hebron and Jerusalem, official notices of the British government, a call for peace by Arab leaders, lists of the wounded and dead, etc. According to a notice on the last page, the British government prohibited printing newspapers after the riots and printing was permitted on this date alone.
