Current owner is recalling that during their visit to Master SH Raza studio, artist explained the importance of this work - Tarpan is the name of a Hindu ritual of making offerings to a deceased person. Each year families repeat this ritual - it believed to guarantee peace and happiness to the soul of the deceased. According to the artist the black color represents "mother color" from which all the other shades and tones are born. As the day emerges from the night, color and light emerge from the darkness.
Also this painting is recalling his series entitled 'la Terre' which corresponds to a key period of the artist's work and which illustrates his progress towards total abstraction and geometry stemming from the precepts of Hindu and Buddhist philosophy.
