1st-2nd century AD
An oval carnelian intaglio engraved with standing Ceres (Greek Demeter), holding a cornucopia and wheat stalks; set into a later silver ring, the bezel with raised hatched border; flat-section hoop with expanding shoulders. 7.05 grams, 23.37mm overall, 20.59x18.13mm internal diameter (approximate size British Q 1/2, USA 8 1/4, Europe 18.12, Japan 17) (1"). Fine condition.
Provenance
Property of a gentleman; acquired in the late 1960s-early 1970s.
