Torah Mantle - Jerusalem
Torah Mantle. Jerusalem, [early 20th century].
White silk and embroidery threads.
Embroidered Torah Mantle. Embroidered inscription with yellow thread on upper part: “Ki MiZion Tetze Torah Udevar Hashem miYerushalayim” (Hebrew). An ornamented torah crown is embroidered below the inscription, with the inscription “K”T”. On both sides of the crown appear two eagles with spread wings, meticulously embroidered with various stitches and colors. Below the eagles appear palm trees and between them the Tablets of the Law. Below the Tablets of the Law appear a vegetal pattern with a Star of David in white and blue and a cluster of grapes. On the lower part of the mantle, in a purple frame, appears the image of the Western Wall with three cypresses and an inscription in Hebrew: “Kotel Ma’aravi Mazkeret Yerushalem”. On the sides – two five-branched Menorahs. Name of donor is embroidered on lower margins (probably a later addition): “Memtzi Bat R’ Shneur Hachohen Wellman”. Fringes at upper part.
75X45 cm. Embroidery in good condition, fabric in poor condition. Worn fabric, missing fringes, minor stains.
