Collection of Textile Items - Torah Mantle / Tefillin Bags
1. Torah Mantle. [Europe], 1907. Silk embroidered with gold-like threads. The mantle is made of red silk, on its center the Tablets of the Law, embroidered with gold-like threads on white background. Above the Tablets of the Law a prominent Torah Crown is embroidered with the Hebrew letters “K T” (Keter Torah). Inscribed on the lower part: “Ze HaSefer Nidev R’ Azriel Feldman…Avur Nishmat HaBetula Sarah Zal Beshnat 1907” (Hebrew; “This book was given by R’ Azriel Feldman… in memory of Sarah in the year 1907”). Vegetal pattern embroidery and a ribbon decorate the bottom part. Gold-color fringes. 70X39 cm. Good condition, spotting, wear to white fabric.
2. Tefillin bag. [Europe, first half of 20th century]. Lace embroidered with thick gold-like thread. A bag which was probably used for Tefillin, made of two pieces of lace. A Star of David is embroidered in the center of the bag encircled by geometric and vegetal patterns. Embroidered in the center of the Star of David, in Hebrew: “צווי”, within the triangles of the Star of David appear faulty Hebrew Characters [maybe a misspelling of “Star of David” (“מגן דוד”, in Hebrew)]. 30X23 cm. Good condition, somewhat unraveled margins.
3. Embroidered Tefillin bag. [Russia, late 19th century]. Embroidered felt. A geometric pattern is embroidered on the bag with a monogram and the Bar Mitzva year – 1907. Enclosed is a pair of Tefillin. 22X14 cm. Good condition. With an original lace.
