Torah Crown - Twelve Tribes - North Africa
Torah Crown. [Algeria or Tunisia, first half of 20th century].
Silver, repousée and engraved.
The crown is meant to be attached to a Torah case and has an opening and closing mechanism (missing). It consists of twelve separate plates connected with hinges. A silver ornament is attached with rings to the lower part of each plate (it is possible that the small rings are a later addition). The plates are decorated with floral engravings. On each plate appear the emblem and name of one of the twelve tribes of Israel.
Under the plate of the Binyamin Tribe appears an engraved Hebrew inscription: "Gift of Mas'uda" and under the Reuven plate: "Lebeit Shalini[?]".
17X118 cm. Good condition; soldering repairs to the first and last plates and minor bends to several plates. Spread on Bordeaux velvet, and framed in a fine wooden frame.
Objects – Judaica & Israeliana
