LETTER OF THANKS TO SIR MOSES MONTEFIORE BEARING SIGNATURES OF THE GREAT LEADERS OF THE ASHKENAZI AND SEFARDY COMMUNITIES OF YERUSHALAYIM, RABBI SHMUEL SALANT, RABBI YESHAYA BARDAKI AND RISHON LETZION RABBI CHAIM NISSIM ABULAFIA.


Letter dated 1854 written in the fine hand of a scribe, expresses thanks for a donation received from Sir Moses towards the Bikur Cholim and Hachnasas Kalla funds. Bearing the signatures of Rabbi Shmuel Salant, Rabbi Yeshaya Bardaki and the Rishon Letzion Rabbi Chaim Nissim Abulafia and R. Nissan Bak, with impressive stamps of the Bikur Cholim and Hachnasas Kalla funds.

Rabbi Yeshaya Bardaki (1790-1863), disciple of Rabbi Chaim of Volozhin and of Rabbi Yisrael of Shklov. Settled in Tzefas in 1810, and after the earthquake in Tzefas he moved to Yerushalayim, where he became a leader of the Ashkenazi community.

Rabbi Shmuel Salant (1806-1909), studied Torah in Salant and Volozhin, son-in-law of Rabbi Yosef Zundel Salant and settled in Yerushalayim in 1841, where he became Av Beth Din of the Ashkenazi community.

Rabbi Chaim Nissim Abulafia (1795-1861), Rabbi of Teverya and Rishin Letzion from 1854.

R. Nissan Bak, son of the famous printer R. Yisrael Bak. Representative of the Rebbes of Ruzhin and Sadagura in Eretz Yisrael, heading the construction of the Tiferes Yisrael Shul in Yerushalayim ontheir behalf. Leading Yerushalayim communal activist.
