An interesting letter of recommendation, written by Rabbi Meir Simcha Hacohen of Dvinsk for Rabbi Yisrael Aba Tzitron, the son-in-law of the ‘Rogatchover’ Gaon - who was rabbi of the chassidic community in his town.
‘I knew him when he was still a young child and already then he was exceptional in his memory and exceptional talents. When he was 13 years old he had mastered nearly the entire Seder Nezikin. After that, he studied diligently in the tents of Torah and learnt large amounts of Gemara and Tosfos and mastered the Torah path to a great degree.’
Rabbi Meir Simcha Hacohen of Dvinsk (1843-1926), studied torah with Rabbi Yomtov Lippman Halperin of Bialystok – the Oneg Yomtov. Rabbi of Dvinsk (from 1888). Leading rabbinic leader renowned for his deep and broad Torah knowledge, and author of important rabbinic works, Or Sameach and Meshech Chochmah.
Rabbi Yisrael Aba Tzitron (1881-1927), son-in-law of Rabbi Yosef Rosen - the ‘Rogatchover’ Gaon. Rabbi of Petach Tikva from 1911.
