An Antique Chinese Famille Rose Porcelain Dish
Decorated with a nature scene with birds and flower tree in the middle. The geometrical pattern on the yellow ground at the stepped rim and wavy gilded edge. Floral designs on the underside - one in every cardinal direction. The wavy pattern in green at the foot. Underside with red underglaze TONGZHI mark under the base. Ca. Qing Dynasty, 19th. Century. Size d: 7 1/4 in., h: 2 in. Provenance: Collection of Edward Hyers Clayton (1886-1946). American writer and missioner. E.H. Clayton and his wife were missionaries of the American Baptist Foreign Mission Society in charge of Wayland Academy, a missionary school in Hangzhou, China from 1912 to 1942. E.H. Clayton wrote a book Heaven Below based on his living experience in China.
