Ercol Model 355 Studio Couch / Daybed, Elm & Beech, Designed by Lucian Ercolani - An original vintage Ercol Model 355 Studio Couch, designed by Lucian R. Ercolani, with a beautifully figured solid elm backboard raised upon slender supports, characteristic steam-bent spindle ends, tapered legs and original-style interwoven webbing suspension. Designed as a dual-purpose sofa and occasional single bed, the large elm backboard is removable, allowing the couch to convert into a daybed. The design was introduced in 1956 and has become one of Ercol's most recognisable post-war furniture designs. This example is offered without its loose seat and back cushions, retaining the timber frame, removable elm backboard and webbing as photographed. The frame displays age-related marks, rubbing and wear; webbing is present but aged and would benefit from replacement/restoration before regular use.
