Pair of Southeast Asian Carved Hardwood & Bone-Inlaid Water Buffalo-Form Containers - An unusual matched pair of Southeast Asian carved hardwood decorative containers, each modelled as a recumbent water buffalo or ox, with detachable animal-form head revealing the hollow cylindrical interior. Each extensively embellished with pale bone-inlaid or bone-veneered panels, finely incised with elaborate scrolling foliate and floral ornament, the heads similarly decorated and fitted with curved pale horns. The rear sections terminate in particularly elaborate pierced and carved scrolling flame/foliate ornament. One retaining an old handwritten paper label to the wooden base. Probably Southeast Asian, 20th century. Attractive dark patination to the timber with age-related wear, staining, cracking and discolouration to the bone decoration; some losses and imperfections may be present. Please refer to photographs.
