Collection of African Blackwood / Ebony Carvings Including Tall Figural Sculptures & Lidded Boxes - A collection of five African blackwood or ebony-type carvings, comprising two tall stylised female figures, each modelled with elongated body and angular facial features upon rectangular bases; a finely turned and carved cylindrical lidded vessel with radiating fluted cover and tall finial; an octagonal lidded box intricately decorated with repeating incised circular motifs; and a smaller turned lidded vessel with elongated finial. The two figures are particularly decorative examples, displaying differing coiffures and strongly stylised elongated forms. The boxes demonstrate a combination of turning, deep carving and finely worked geometric decoration. Probably East African, principally mid/late 20th century. Unmarked as far as visible. Surface wear, minor marks and imperfections commensurate with age and handmade construction; please refer to photograph.
