Impressive Large Pair of Chinese Blue-Glazed Pottery Dogs of Fo / Foo Dogs, Approx. 60cm High - An impressive opposing pair of large Chinese glazed pottery Dogs of Fo (Foo Dogs) / guardian lions, each standing approximately 60cm high and heavily modelled with fierce open-mouthed expressions, prominent eyes, scrolling manes and muscular seated bodies. Decorated predominantly in a rich cobalt-blue glaze with turquoise-green, cream and ochre detailing, with one guardian depicted resting a forepaw upon a traditional brocade ball. Their substantial scale, strongly modelled features and heavily potted construction give the pair considerable decorative presence. Various firing irregularities, glaze wear and age-related losses/chipping to projecting elements are visible. Exact age presently unconfirmed and therefore no specific period attribution is made.
