Spectacular Large Grisaille representing the Miraculous Catch of Jesus, Italian or Flemish school of the 17th century
In the work that we present below, of great size and technical and pictorial quality, the Miracle of the Miraculous Catch of Jesus Christ is detailed, and it appears reflected in different contexts, before and after the Resurrection. The first, in the Gospel of Luke (5:1-11); and the second in the Gospel of John (21:1-14), where a specific number of fish is spoken of (153) and it is indicated that Peter threw himself into the water dressed when warned by John that "it is the Lord who told them where to fish. Both episodes take place on the Sea of Galilee or Tiberias, and consist of the apostles (who are fishermen by trade) fishing unsuccessfully until Jesus incites them to throw the nets once more, and it is on that occasion, by demonstrating faith in what Jesus tells them, when they get an extraordinary catch. Oil on canvas, framed measurements: 175 x 125 cm, canvas measurements: 166 x 115 cm. Provenance: former private collection, Spain.
