Signed letter by Albert Einstein, written January 20th 1947 and carries the title of “The Emergency Committee of Atomic Scientists”. The committee's aims were to warn the public of the dangers associated with the development of nuclear weapons, promote the peaceful use of nuclear energy, and ultimately work towards world peace. In his letter, Einstein talks about Atomic energy as the world’s most revolutionary force since prehistoric man’s discovery of fire, and about the scientists’ responsibility to educate the public of the simple facts of atomic energy and its implications for society. “We believe that an informed citizenry will act for life and not for death”. At the end of the letter, Einstein asks for 1 million dollars towards this great educational task. The letter is framed.
