Sefer 'Otzrot Chaim', introduction to Kabbalah, authored by the holy Rabbi Chaim Vital, disciple of the Holy Arizal, Korets 1783.
Sefer 'Otzrot Chaim', introduction for the learning of Kabbalah, authored by the holy Rabbi Chaim Vital, disciple of the Holy Arizal, Korets 1783.
Rabbi Chaim Vital (1542-1620), from the great disciples of the Holy Arizal who prepared his manuscripts. Born in Safed to Rabbi Yosef Calabrese.
who ascended to Israel from Southern Italy. At the age of 14 he began to study in the Beit Medrash of Maharam Alshich and continued at the Beit Medrash of the holy Ramak. There was the greatest turning point of his life as in the year 1570 the Holy Arizal emigrated from Egypt to Israel and joined the scholars of the Beit Medrash. Rabbi Chaim clung to the holy Arizal and became his revered disciple. After several months when the holy Ramak passed away the Holy Ari became the leader of the Beit Medrash. This period did not last for long, since the Holy Ari passed away after two years. (There are awesome descriptions of the funeral of the Holy Arizal and the grief of Rabbi Chaim Vital). Most disciples of the Holy Arizal accepted him as their Rabbi and leader. Rabbi Chaim collected from them the manuscripts of the Holy Arizal and prepared them. This collection was found in Geniza (storage) by Rabbi Abraham (ben Mordechai) Azulai and given to Rabbi Yaakov Tzemach who edited and published it.
