Cypriot Black on Red Polished Ware Vessel Collection
Iron Age, circa 9th-7th century B.C. Mixed group including vases, flasks and other types, with painted detailing. Cf. Morris, D., The Art of ancient Cyprus, Oxford, 1985, fig. p.43, pl.35, for similar. 308 grams total, 5.7-10.5 cm (2 1/4 - 4 1/8 in.).
From a collection acquired on the UK art market from various auction houses and collections mostly before 2000.From an important Cambridgeshire estate; thence by descent.
The Cypriot black-on-red ware mostly comprises small juglets in a red-brown slip with a lustrous surface, on which simple geometric patterns are painted in matt blank. [6, No Reserve]
