Medieval Stained Glass Panel with a Gittern-Playing Angel
Early 14th century A.D.. Roundel with painted image of a winged and nimbate angel playing a gittern; left hand supporting the neck of the instrument and right hand manipulating a pointed plectrum; pegbox carved with a beast's head finial; silvered and deep red panels to complete the circular shape. 452 grams, 19 cm (7 1/2 in.).
French private collection.Private collection, Suffolk.Exhibited at Harwich Museum, Harwich, Essex, UK, 3rd February-9th March 2024; accompanied by a copy of a photograph of the artefact on display.
