[c. 1885]. - A single-volume late 19th-century regional history and directory for the Furness and Cartmel districts of Cumbria. The work is bound in half-calf with red cloth-covered boards and leather at the spine and corners, featuring a blind-tooled decorative border where the materials meet. The title page is printed with the full title: 'T. BULMER & Co.'s HISTORY, TOPOGRAPHY, AND DIRECTORY OF Furness & Cartmel COMPRISING ITS HISTORY AND ARCHÆOLOGY, PHYSICAL AND GEOLOGICAL FEATURES, WITH SEPARATE HISTORICAL AND TOPOGRAPHICAL DESCRIPTIONS OF EACH TOWN, PARISH, AND MANOR. EDITED BY J. BULMER.' The lower portion of the title page identifies the printer as 'PRINTED FOR THE PROPRIETORS BY T. SNAPE & Co., CHURCH STREET, PRESTON.' and lists the original purchase prices for 'Cloth, 10/6; Half-calf, 12/6.' A contemporary white and orange auction tag is attached to the spine by a white string, bearing handwritten text in black ink that reads 'BULMERS HISTORY & DIRECTORY OF FURNESS & CARTMEL' and the number '124' within an orange box. The volume appears to be an octavo in size.
