T. Leslie-Hawkes (British, 20th Century), Wastwater, Watercolour, 1983 - A framed watercolour on paper depicting a traditional topographical landscape of Wastwater in the Lake District. The composition features a shepherd in a flat cap carrying a walking stick, accompanied by a black and white sheepdog on a stony track. The figures are positioned in the mid-foreground, heading towards a gate and a small flock of sheep. The middle distance shows a stone-walled field and the expanse of the lake, framed by the steep fells characteristic of the Wasdale valley. The work is executed in a realistic, illustrative style with a palette of greens, greys, and earthy tones. In the bottom right corner, a black painted signature and date read T. Leslie-Hawkes '83 (photo 2). In the bottom left corner, a black painted title reads Wastwater (photo 3). The artwork is presented within a double green card mount and a dark wood frame with a gilt inner slip.
