A Victorian Carved Mahogany Ribband-Back Armchair - A Victorian mahogany armchair in the Chippendale revival style. The chair features a highly ornate openwork back with a central pierced and carved ribband splat, displaying scrolling foliage and a ribbon-tie motif. The shaped top rail is finished with carved acanthus-style ears. The curved armrests terminate in scrolled hand grips on swept supports. The drop-in seat is upholstered in a cream-coloured fabric with a repeating diamond lattice pattern. The chair is supported by cabriole front legs with carved knees and ball-and-claw feet, while the rear raked legs are square in section and connected by an H-shaped stretcher. No maker marks, stamps, or labels are visible on the surfaces of the chair.
