W & T Avery Ltd Cast Iron and Brass Balance Scale with Weights - A vintage countertop balance beam scale constructed with a cast iron frame and brass components. The central cast iron body features a black painted finish with remnants of red pinstripe detailing. The lower central horizontal bar of the frame is cast in relief with the maker's name W & T AVERY LTD. The left side of the frame is cast with TO WEIGH 7 LB and the right side with BIRMING, denoting Birmingham as the place of manufacture. The scale is equipped with two brass pans: a flat circular pan on the left and a larger scooped pan on the right. A collection of graduated brass and lead weights accompanies the scale. These include a large 1lb weight seated in the left pan and several smaller weights in the right pan. Readable markings on the weights include 4 OZ, 2 OZ, and 1 OZ. A small circular weight with a lead-filled centre is stamped 2 OZ and bears other indistinct characters. A central vertical pointer indicator is positioned above the central fulcrum to assist in balancing the beam.
