Large 19th Century English Riveted Copper Planter - A large nineteenth-century cylindrical vessel constructed from heavy-gauge copper sheets. The body is formed from a single large sheet joined with a vertical row of hand-beaten copper rivets. A circular copper base is secured to the walls with a matching continuous line of large-headed copper rivets. The upper rim is reinforced with a thick, flat-top copper band. There are no clearly legible maker marks or hallmarks; however, faint incised characters are present near the interior rim (photo 1) which are too worn and blurred to be transcribed. The vessel features a heavy verdigris patina to the exterior and a darkened, aged finish to the interior. An orange adhesive price or inventory label is present on the exterior rim (photo 1).
