The Austrian painter and graphic artist Frieda Salvendy primarily created landscapes from the Adriatic region and Slovakia (her parents came from Neustadt an der Waag in Upper Hungary) as well as still lifes in mostly strong colours, and after 1950 mostly floral watercolours. As a graphic artist, she mainly produced landscape lithographs, sometimes in cycles (e.g. “Vienna motifs” or “The castles and ruins of the Waagtal”). In 1912/1913 Salvendy studied at the Grand Ducal Art School in Weimar under Albin Egger-Lienz and Felix Albrecht Harta. In 1918, she was a founding member of the artists' association “Freie Bewegung” (with Carry Hauser, Katharina Zirner and Helene Funke); She was also a member of the association of female visual artists “Wiener Frauenkunst”. In 1922, she took part in a Hagenbund exhibition for the first time, and from 1928 to 1938 she was an associate member. A collective exhibition followed in Prague in 1931. Numerous study trips took her to the countries of the Adriatic region, as well as to Italy, southern France and Czechoslovakia. In the summer months from around 1930 - 1937, painting visits took place at Anna Lesznai's estate in Körtvelyes/Hrusov. In 1938/1939, Salvendy emigrated to England and settled in Mousehole near Malvern in Cornwall. Her works are included in the Albertina, in the Vienna Museum, in the Modern Gallery in Prague, in the Bratislava City Museum and in the Cleveland/Ohio Museum. Further artists and styles: Albert Reuss, Still life, Landscape, Watercolour, Gouache, Lithography, Realism, Expressionism
