Dogon Tribe Death Mask Mali
Large mask with stylized geometric eyes and face. Wear from age, splintering of wood. Indicative of the Dogon of Mali culture. Masks were used in dances to commemorate the origin of death. Death was created because of the failings of mortal kind and their wrong doing against the divines. Masks are also used to help spirits into the afterlife.
