Group of [3] Letters from the Ra'ava"d of Satmar, Rabbi Moshe David Winternitz

Three lengthy letters in dense handwriting covering seven pages. The letters are entirely handwritten and signed by the gaon Rabbi Moshe David Winternitz, Ra'ava"d of Satmar, Hungary. The letters were sent to his in-law, the gaon Rabbi Yosef Adler of Turda, and deal with halachic responsa. Satmar, 1923-1928.

Rabbi Moshe David Winternitz [1873-1944, Otzar HaRabbanim 15363], was a disciple of Rabbi Menachem Mendel Panet of Dej and the "Yitev Lev" of Sighet-Satmar as well as others. He was a son-in-law of Rabbi Binyamin Ze'ev Mandelbaum, first rabbi of the city of Satmar. Rabbi Moshe David served as a dayan in Satmar from 1895 and then as Ra'avad in place of his father-in-law. He was one of the leading rabbis of Hungary and was murdered in the Holocaust when he was about 90 years old.
