Shu"t Mahari"t Tzahlon. Pictures of the Beit HaMikdash. First Edition. Venice, 1694
She'elot U'Teshuvot including [296] responsa by the rav hamusmach, the gaon Rabbi Yom Tov Tzahlon, who was granted rabbinic ordination by the Alshich HaKadosh. Vendramin Press. Venice, 1694. First complete edition. This copy also includes the rare index leaves which are lacking in some copies.
A rare and interesting phenomenon appears in this book: On about two thirds (!) of the title page, there is a woodcut depicting the tabernacle along with pictures of its vessels.
Additional woodcut on the back of the title page with a large, impressive diagram of the third Beit HaMikdash and drawings of the menorah and the shulchan. The reason is printed on page 10 of the indices: "To beautify the book's title page in the best way possible by print, the disciples drew these sacred subjects - the mishkan and the third Beit HaMikdash ..."
A third woodcut appears on page 8, depicting the second Beit HaMikdash captioned "The glorious Beit HaMikdash of our ancestors that was burnt down."
Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a brief biography of the author, Rabbi Yom Tov Tzahlon.
