Kreiti U'Pleiti. Rabbeinu Yehonatan Eybeschütz. Altona, 1763. First Edition

Kreiti U'Pleiti - novellae and elucidations on Shulchan Aruch Yoreh Deah by that gaon of geonim, Rabbi Yehonatan Eybeschütz - the epitome of sharp and scholarly understanding. Altona, 1763. First edition.

The only sefer that was printed by Yehonatan Eybeschütz in his lifetime. He wrote on the title page: "I nurtured and expanded this for the fifty years I have served as a rabbinic instructor, observed events and clarified halachah."

The work is divided in two, Kreiti - "All the halachic rulings from the Rishonim and Acharonim and what has come from my in-depth study - to innovate or determine, " and Pleiti - "All the pilpulim from Abaye and Rava through the Poskim."

Especially important scholarly  work, later printed in many editions. In his preface to the sefer, the author writes about his life and his other works, and also about the famous dispute between Rabbi Ya'akov Emden - the Ya'avetz - and himself. He also indicates why he did not request approbations for his sefer, as is customary.

Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a brief biography of Rabbi Yehonatan Eybeschütz.
