In our upcoming auction we are honored to present books a private collection. The books were meticulously collected over fifty years, and were selected with professionalism and profundity. The collection includes the most significant books within the area of Jewish thought printed from the 17th to the mid-20th centuries; such as: foundational books, commentaries on the Talmud, philosophical works, Kabbalah and Hassidism, and dissertations on Torah ethics and thought. In addition, the collection includes books on grammar, poetry, important biographies about the great sages of Israel, history books, books on the Land of Israel, books about Jerusalem, and more. חמשה חומשי תורה... עם נביאים ראשונים ואחרונים וכתובים. על פי המקובל במהדורה זו היה נוהג רבי אריה לוין להשתמש לערוך את גורל הגר"א. אמשטרדם 1701 [תס"א]. עותק חסר.
מפרט: [6], 292-77 דף, 306-293, [4] עמ'. 14 ס"מ.
בעותק שלפנינו חסר החומש, מתחיל בספר יהושע, וחסר דף 81. השער המאוייר חסר בחלקו.
מאפיינים יחודיים: במהדורה זו היה נוהג הצדיק רבי אריה לוין לערוך את 'גורל הגר"א', שהוא פתיחת התנ"ך על פי הסוד, על מנת לקבל תשובות לתעלומות נסתרות, על פי מסורת שהועברה מהגאון רבי אליהו מוילנא (הגר"א). רבי חיים וולוז'ין, רבי אהרן קוטלר ואחרים השתמשו בגורל על מנת לקבל תשובות, אך השימוש המפורסם ביותר הוא ללא ספק הגורל הנערך על ידי רבי אריה לוין ב 1950 לשם זיהוי גופותיהם של 12 מחללי שיירת הל"ה שלא זוהו לפי סימנים אחרים.
