Superman: From the 30s to the 70s, 1971 First Edition
Superman: From the Thirties to the Seventies.
First Edition by Bonanza Books, 1971.
Superman, one of the most enduring of the comic strip heroes, first appeared on the newsstands in 1938 and this commemorative volume marks 40 years of his good works. Superman was initially prepared as a newspaper comic strip, but failed to find a taker. National Periodicals took a punt and so Superman was born as comic book character and he certainly lived to fight on many another day. This volume follows his action-packed adventures to the 1970s, by which time the hero had also made it on radio, TV, movie, novels and even a stage show. The book includes a bibliography, with 36 pages in full colour, including 26 original covers, and a nine page introduction tracing the history of the hero by Nelson Bridwell, editor of National Periodical Comics.
