LARGE ROMAN MARBLE STATUE OF YOUNG DIONYSUS
Ca. AD 100 - 200A Roman marble statue of young Dionysus, carved from creamy, white marble; this is an interesting sculpture depicting a standing young Dionysus (Bacchus). The figure is a nude depiction of the god as a boy, handsome, youthful. His muscular legs and chest are carefully carved, creating a sensuous, lifelike portrait. His head and face are large, with big eyes, an expressionless mouth, and a small nose. His face is framed by curled hair, and a garland is visible at the top of his head. He is holding a grapevine cluster with his left arm.
