BACTRIAN STONE OIL LAMP
Ca. 2200 - 1500 BC. A rare stone oil lamp in the shape of a five-pointed star with a central circular oil reservoir. The lamp could accommodate up to five wicks, fuelled from the central oil compartment. A large round dot is incised in the centre. These lamps were used in both domestic and ritual settings to provide light. Size: 160mm x 45mm; Weight: 375g Provenance: Prince collection, 1990s-2014; Ex. Bill & Lynda Beierwaltes collection, 2007. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter. This piece is accompanied by a historical report from Alessandro Neri, an international Cultural Heritage expert based in Florence, Italy.
