BRITISH TUDOR SILVER GILT HAT APPLIQUÉ
Ca. AD 1500 - 1600. An elegant hat appliqué with a circular shape and a body crafted from gilt silver. It is detailed with concentric circles resembling a cordon, alternating with circles featuring geometric decorations. The central section comprises six semi-circular silver bezels inlaid with black niello, encircling a hexagonal motif that contains a smaller silver hexagon with niello inlay. The reverse side of the fibula is decorated with a rosette of six petals surrounding a central round pistil. Size: 70mm x 70mm; Weight: 40g. Provenance: Property of a London Ancient art collector, formerly in a London private collection, formerly acquired on the UK art market since the 1970s. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter. This piece is accompanied by an authentication statement by Sami Fortune, ancient jewellery specialist.
