JOHN II CASIMIR VASA: (1609-1672) King of Poland 1648-68. Known as Jan Kazimierz. Third and last Monarch from the House of Vasa, he succeeded his brother Wladyslaw IV Vasa to the Polish throne and married his widow. His reign was one of the most disastrous in the history of Poland. In 1668 John II Casimir resigned and went to France, hospitably treated by King Louis XIV, where he resided until his death and without issue. A good L.S., `Bonus frater et aff.nis Joannes Casimirus Rex´, one page, folio, Warsaw, 25th August 1666, to Prince Frederick William, Elector of Brandenburg, in Latin. The King expresses his happiness having been informed about the increasing support Frederick William is getting for his election and declares his full support and affection for him, also referring to the birth his new son, Prince Louis.
