RABBI CHAI YITZCHAK TWERSKY, RACHMESTRIVKA REBBE – USA, LETTER OF THANKS AND BLESSINGS WRITTEN TO RABBI ARYEH SCHECHTER. 1964.

A letter written to Rabbi Aryeh Schechter by the Rachmestrivka Rebbe of New York in 1964, when he resided in New Square. The letter includes the Rebbe’s blessings and thanks to Rabbi Schechter for sending him sefer Moadim Uzemanim Part 1, written by Rabbi Schechter’s brother-in-law Rabbi Moshe Sternbuch – currently Rosh Beth Din of the Eida Charedis in Yerushalayim.

Rabbi Chai Yitzchak Twersky (b. 1931), son of Rabbi Yochanan of Rachmestrivka and son-in-law of Rabbi Yaakov Yosef Twersky of Skver. Studied under Rabbi Isser Zalman Meltzer at Yeshiva Etz Chayim, and subsequently at the Belzer Yeshiva, and was close to the Rebbe of Belz. After his marriage, he became close to his father-in-law the Rebbe of Skver and resided in New Square until 1981, when he succeeded his father as Rachmestrivka Rebbe in New York. He is one of the most senior and revered contemporary chassidic leaders and is widely consulted for his advice and blessings. His teachings have been published under the title Amaros Tehoros.

Rabbi Aryeh Schechter (1937-2020), studied at the Slabodka Yeshiva and was close to the Chazon Ish, Rabbi Yitzchak Ze’ev Soloweitchik of Brisk and Rav Chaim Greineman, as well as to Rabbi Shaul Kosovsky. During the 1950s he was active in promoting religious life among immigrants in new Israeli settlements and towns, and in later years he became involved in the Arachim movement and other organisations that have brought many secular Israelis back to religious observance. For a time, he studied regularly together with Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky. Some of his lectures have been published under the title Aryeh Sha’ag.
