[SECURITY CARDS]: The Cartes de Sûreté were created on 12th March 1793 with the purpose of granting that their holders were not suspect. The cards will remain in effect until 1799. Each citizen had to present himself to a surveillance committee, together with two witnesses, and after an investigation they were getting either the white colour card as a good citizen or the red card for suspects. Two rare security cards belonging to Jean Dupuy, one and two pages, 4 x 3 and 7 x 4, dated 13th April 1793 and 17th December 1801 respectively. The first being a red card, as suspect, issued by the commune of Paris, section of La Butte des Moulins, and the second being a white card issued by the municipality of Cap-Français, St. Domingue, a French colony. Small overall, minor age wear. G, 2 £250-350 Jean Dupuy (1763-1823) French Commandant of the Turtle island port during the Revolution, and vessel Captain under the Empire.
